WANDILIGONG HEDGE MAZE

Explore Australia’s largest living hedge maze, which is made up of 2km of pathways. When you manage to find your way out, you can relax with a coffee and a slice of cake at the café. The maze is open from Wednesday to Sunday through the year, and every day during the school holidays. Please note that it’s normally closed in August.

RED STAG DEER AND EMU FARM

Located just off Great Alpine Road, the Red Stag Deer and Emu Farm is an absolute wonderland for kids. Not only are there plenty of tame deer and emus, but there are also ostriches, goats and chooks. For $5, you can hand feed the animals. You can also have lunch in the restaurant overlooking the Ovens Valley, or browse the farm’s gift shop.

TAVARE PARK

Tavare Park can be found directly opposite the Harrietville Hotel Motel, near the School Bridge. It has a great little playground with a swing set, a flying fox and slides. There are also BBQ and picnic facilities.

DINNER PLAIN TRAIL RIDES

This is a rare chance to explore the high country on horseback. Ride over mountain streams and through valleys, where you might even spot a wild brumby. Dinner Plain is about forty minutes from Harrietville. The township is completely covered in snow during the winter, so trail rides only operate in summer.
